The Tract
Every Sunday afternoon, after morning services, the Pastor and his eleven year old son would go into town and hand out Gospel Tracts. This particular Sunday, as it came time for them to go, it was very cold and pouring down rain..
The boy bundled up in his warmest clothes and said, "OK, dad, I'm ready." His Pastor dad asked, "Ready for what?" "Dad, it's time to go out and pass out tracts." "Son, it's very cold and raining outside." The boy gave his dad a surprised look, asking, "But dad, don't people need to hear God's call for salvation, even though it's raining?" Dad answered, "Son, I'm not going out in this cold and rain." Disappointed, the boy asked, "Dad, can I go, please?" His father hesitated, then said, "Son, you may go. Here are the tracts, be careful."
The boy walked the streets of the town and handed everybody he met a Gospel Tract. After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking wet and down to his very last tract. He stopped on a corner, looking for someone to give his last tract, but the streets were empty.
He then went to the first home he saw, he walked up to the front door and rang the door bell. But no one answered. He knocked and rang again. Still no answer. Finally, he turned to walk away but something stopped him. Again, he turned back and rang the bell and knocked on the door. Finally the door slowly opened. Standing there was a elderly looking lady. She softly said, "What can I do for you son?" With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, he said, "Mam, I'm sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want to tell you that Jesus really does love you, and I came to give you my very last Gospel Tract which will tell you all about Jesus and His great Love." With that, he handed her his last tract and turned to leave. She called to him as he departed, "Thank you son and God bless you."
The following Sunday morning in church, Pastor Dad was in the pulpit and he asked, "Does anyone have a testimony or want to say anything?" Slowly, in the back row of the church, an elderly lady stood up. As she began to speak, a look of glorious radiance came from her face as she said... "None of you in this church knows me. I've never been here before. You see, before last Sunday, I was not a Christian. My husband died some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world. Last Sunday was a cold and rainy day, but even more so in my heart. I no longer had any hope or any will to live. So, I took a rope and a chair to the attic of my house. I tied the rope to an attic rafter, stood on the chair and tied the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on the chair, so lonely and broken hearted, I was about to leap off the chair, when the ringing of my doorbell surprised me. I thought, I'll wait a few minutes and whoever it is will go away. I waited and waited, but the bell kept ringing, the person started knocking on my door. I thought, who in the world could it be. Nobody ever rings my door or comes to see me. I loosened the rope from my neck and went to the front door. When I opened the door, I could hardly believe my eyes. There on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I'd ever seen. His smile, oh, I can hardly describe it. And the words that came from him caused my heart to leap to life." He said, "Mam, I just came to tell you that Jesus really does love you." Then he gave me this Gospel Tract I hold in my hand. As that little angel went back out into the cold and rain, I closed the door and slowly read every word of this Gospel Tract. Then, I went back up to attic to get my rope and chair, as I would not need them there anymore. You see, I am the now a happy child of Christ. And since the address of this church was on the Gospel Tract, I have come to personally say, Thank you to God's little Angel, who came just in time.
There were no dry eyes in the church. And as shouts of praise and honor to CHRIST resounded off the church walls, Pastor Dad came down from the pulpit to the front pew where the little angel was sitting. He took him into his arms and sobbed uncontrollably. Probably no church as had a more glorious moment. AND probably this Universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love and honor for his son.
EXCEPT FOR ONE --
This Father also allowed His Son to go out into a cold and dark world. He received His Son back with Joy unspeakable. All of Heaven shouted praises and honor to Christ. The Father sat His beloved Son on a throne far above all principality and power and every name that is named.
There may be someone reading this, who is also going through a dark, cold, lonely time in your life. You may be a Christian, but we are not without problems or, you may not yet know Christ as personal Savior. Whatever the case, and what ever the problem or situation you find yourself in, and no matter how dark it may seem, I want you to know that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU!
